It is a synthetic, clay water stone designed for polishing and finishing an edge. It has a soft surface and cuts with a gentle speed which greatly reduces the possibility of damaging the cutting edge. For touching up a cutting edge on general kitchen knives, it is a very useful stone. This stone comes attached to a plastic base.
